    1. In my opinion Byron keeps disobeying his parents because he wants to intimidate Kenny so that everyone is afraid of him.
    2. In my opinion Mrs. Watson’s punishments are too harsh and that Mr. Watson handles the situation better. I think this because when Byron was playing with fire she tried to burn him.
    3. In my opinion it made Mrs. Watson upset when Byron got a conk because it was like he was trying to be more like a white person and he was disrespecting his race.

    Chapter 8
    1. In my opinion Kenny is eager to have a real mustache because he looks up to his father and wants to be like him.
    2. I think that the parents are sending him to Alabama because he can’t get into as much trouble since there aren’t any street gangs or as much bad influences like in the city.

    Chapter 7
1.) I think Byron keeps doing things that his parents have forbidden because in the book on page 87 it states that Byron got a conk and his parents forbidden him from ever getting one. He is also a juvenile delinquent, at that age where you break rules. I believe Byron feels like his little brother Kenny gets more attention.
2.) I believe when Byron misbehaves, Mr. Watson handles it better. Mr. Watson is a calm dad who is at work all day. Also, on page 88 it states Mr Watson shaved Byron’s hair off his head off as Mrs. Watson threatened to burn his hand.
    3. ) In addition to thinking it is ugly, Mrs. Watson objects to Byron’s new hairdo, "the conk" because on page 88 it states that she feels it is disrespectful, straight and dangerous because of all the chemicals.

    Chapter 8:
    1. I think Kenny is so eager to have a real mustache like his dads because in the book, it says that Kenny was excited to grow up and be an adult. Also, it states that Kenny can shave and use aftershave like his dad.
    2. I think the Watsons think sending Byron to Alabama will help him to behave better because in the book it says that Byron has been behaving really bad and they suggest they send him away to grandma Sands. This help should help him behave better because in the time period whites controlled America. Going there will make him associate with the white people, something he never faced.
I think it will work because it will teach Byron that he is not the boss of everyone and that he should respect who he is as a black man. And accept who he is.

  3. 1. I think Byron keeps doing forbidden things because he doesn’t want everybody to think he is weak and he wants to show them that he is worthy of being a rule breaker like everybody else. I also think he is trying to fit in with the others.
    2. I think Mr. Watson handled the situation better because Mrs. Watson didn’t know what to do because she was so shocked. Mr. Watson, however, went straight to action, shaving him bald.
    3. Mrs. Watson objects to “the conk” because it is not natural hair for a black. Blacks have curly hair, while the chemicals Byron put in his hair make it strait make it not black style hair. Mrs. Watson wants him to be proud of who he is.
    4. I think Kenny is eager to have a moustache because he wants to be like his dad. Children follow other people because they are there examples, and Mr. Watson is Kenny’s.
    5. Mr. and Mrs. Watson think that sending Byron to Birmingham will make him behave better because it is a quiet, peaceful neighborhood. It is not like Flint, with gangs. He also will not be with his parents and siblings. I think this will work because he will have to start fresh and won’t know anybody or where anything is.

  4. 1. I think that Byron bad things even though his parents forbid it because the punishments his parents are giving him are just not working on him, he just doesn’t learn.
    2. When Byron misbehaves, Mr. Watson handles the problems better because he shaved his head after the gel incident, and after the match problem, Mrs. Watson set Byron’s fingers on fire and that seems like child abuse.
    3. Mrs. Watson objects to Byron’s new hairdo because she thinks it’s ugly and she doesn’t like him putting chemicals in his hair.
    4. I think Kenny is so eager for a mustache because he wants to impress his dad.
    5. The Watsons think sending Byron to Alabama is a good idea because he would learn that some places are different than Flint.

  5. ma1 1. In my opinion Byruon keeps doing the things that. His parents forbidden because Buphead his friend did it to him. Byron wanted this because I think he wanted to act cool in front of Buphead and doesn't want to be left out.

    2. Byron handles the situation better with Mrs. Watson because Mrs. Watson yells at him but Byron doesn't really care, but when she says that you are going to deal with a punishment from dad then Byron starts getting worried because Mr. Watson can whip him paddle him and do a painful punishment.

    3. Mrs. Watson objects to his hair do because Mr. Watson thinks that you don't need to put all of the chemicals in your hair when God made you charming hair all ready.

    4. Kenny wants to have a mustache because Kenny wants to shave and also look cool like his dad.

    5. They think this because momma says that it's a quiet neighborhood, hunting and fishing and a lot of nice kids.

    1. Byron does things his parents tell him not to do since he thinks he doesn't have to listen to them. For example, he doesn't wear all the winter clothes anymore. I also believe he is trying to rebel.

    2. In my opinion Mr. Watson handles Byron misbehaving better. He takes away what he just did (e.g. Shaving his head when he got the conk) instead of using violence like Mrs. Watson.

    3. Mrs. Watson objects to the conk because she thinks he is trying to be something he's not. Also, a lot of white people have conks.

    4. Kenny is eager to have a mustache like his dad since he looks up to his dad and wants to spend time with him.

    5. They think sending Byron to Alabama will make him behave better since Buphead won't be there to influence him and Grandma Sands will keep him busy because she's strict. Also, Mr. Watson thinks that because there is segregation, it will teach him life isn't all fun and games.
