  1. ma1 1: I would punish Byron by sending him to the fire department so they could give him a lesson about playing fire. I would do is because they put out fires and knows what to do about Byron.

2: I don't think Mrs. Watsons punishment for Byron because why would you want to burn your child's fingers when there is many other punishments to chose from. Also in my opinion it's child abuse.

3: In my opinion Byron was sick after he killed the bird because after he killed it he went to the apple tree and started throwing up. Also he started crying.

4: Byron gets angry at Kenny because Byron thought that Kenny was staring at him when he was crying and got angry at Kenny.

5: Byron shows that he is tough, but on the inside he is not as tough. In the book when Byron was crying, he was crying because he killed the bird. But when Kenny tried to comfort him he got angry and said that the apples made him vomit and cry.

    1. If I was Mrs.Watson the way I would punish Byron by maybe burning something of Byron’s toys of something that he likes. This way he will know not to play with matches again.

    2. I do agree with Mrs.Watson because when Byron was playing with the matches and the mom told him that it dangerous and you can burn yourself. When the mom caught him with the matches I think that she wanted to show him that they are dangerous by burning him.

    3. I think Byron got sick after he killed the mourning dove because he felt sorry that he killed the dove and had to build a grave for it.

    4. Byron got mad at Kenny because Kenny was ganging up on him when Byron got in trouble by the mom so Kenny was saying stuff like “ do you want to say your last words,” and things like that.

    5. Byron isn’t as tough as it looks like it because he was crying when he killed the bird. Also, when the mom tried to burn Byron he was crying. This shows you that he’s not that tuff.

  3. 1. If I were Mrs. Watson, I would punish Byron for playing with matches by putting him on fire, like Mrs. Watson did. I would do this so that Byron would learn just how dangerous a match is.
    2. I agree with Mrs. Watson’s way of punishing him because it would show that matches can be very dangerous in a way that would teach Byron to never play with matches. 3. I think Byron gets sick after killing the mourning dove because he doesn't like to see things die, and the fact that he did it would be even worse. I don’t think he meant to kill the dove, but killed it accidentally and was just trying to knock it down. I also think he ate too many cookies.
    4. I think Byron gets angry at Kenny so suddenly because he was a witness of killing the dove and throwing up and so he kind of saw his soft side and he didn't want him to have anyone know that he had a soft side. Kenny could have told his friends and rumor would spread and then Byron wouldn't be feared anymore. Then he would be the one bullied. I think he did this so Kenny wouldn't tell anybody.
    5. Christopher Paul Curtis shows Byron actually isn't very tough because he starts throwing up after he kills the Mourning Dove because he is angry that he killed it. He also digs a grave for the dove with a cross as the rest in peace sign. He does this because he cares for the dove.

    1. If I was MRS. Watson I would punish Byron by grounding him and not letting him wathc TV or do anything fun.
    2. I think that Byron's punishment was harsh and I do not agree with MRS. Watson's way of punishment.
    3. I think Byron got sick after he killed the mourning dove becuase he actually has a good side so he didn't really want to kill it.
    4. In my opinion Byron got mad becuase becuase he doesn't want anyone to know that he has a good side.
    5. The auther shows that Byron is not as tough as he pretends to be by how he gets sick when the bird dies becuase he actually has a good side.

  5. 1.If I were Mr. Watson I would punish Byron by giving Byron a threat of leaving him alone in the woods. I would do this because in the book it says that Byron plays with matches relatedly, also on page 66 that Byron made Nazi soldiers and lit there parachutes on fire. Another reason is that on page 64 it says that if Byron got caught lighting matches again mama would light him on fire.

    2. I do agree with Mrs. Watson punishment because Byron could have lit the house on fire. Also it says on page 64 that mama liked to play with matches and one day she lit here house on fire. Another thing is that if Jottea wasn’t there to blow out the matches Byron’s hand would have been burned. In my opinion I think that Byron should thank Joetta for blowing out the matches, because if she didn’t Byron would have had to face his punishment.

    3. I think Byron got sick because after he killed the dove instead of crying he barfed. I know this because on page 84 it says that Byron dug a little grave and made a cross of sticks. Also it says that after Byron killed the dove he went over to the apple tree and started to cry and barf.

    4. I think that Byron gets mad at Kenny so quickly because mabey Byron doesn’t want to Kenny to see his soft side. In the book it says that Byron started to sob and throw apples.

    5. The author shows that Byron isn’t as tough as he is by showing that he barfed and sobbed. Also it says that By made a grave out of popsicle sticks were he killed the bird.

  6. 1. If I were Mrs. Watson, I would punish Byron by grounding him for a month, not burning his fingers.
    2. I do not agree because burning someone’s fingers is extreme pain that no one, not even Byron, should have to experience.
    3. Byron gets sick because he feels bad for the bird, and those apples he ate could have been rotten.
    4. Byron gets mad at Kenny because he doesn’t want anybody knowing he feels bad for the bird so it doesn’t ruin his tough guy act.
    5. The author shows that Byron is not as tough as he acts because he threw up when he killed the bird, and he made it a little grave with a Popsicle stick cross.
